Is a real coin toss fair?

In 2023 researchers at the University of Amsterdam had 48 people flip coins from 46 currencies a total of 350,757 times and found a coin lands on the side it started about 50.8% of the time (study summary). That tiny edge matters if one person always holds the coin heads-up. A digital flip has no starting side, which is why it's a fair way to decide who goes first.
